I visited the Baltic countries in late summer, early autumn this year, saw the people’s relay on the day of the Ribbentrop-Molotov treaty 23rd of august in Latvia, took a dipp in the still warm water of the Gulf of Riga in Pärnu, enjoyed 1st of september among all the youngsters in Vilnius and loved the old town of Tallinn – but I was really shocked when I saw the recently erected monument at Vabaduse Väljak, which I just can’t call a Monument of Freedom because it so awfully stunning resembles the stele the Nazis loved to erect in their times wherever they held their mass assemblies. I am sorry but in my view this monument follows the aethetics of fascism. And I can’t understand how authorities in Estonia can be so tasteless and unconscient of history to favor a monstrum like this as the official monument of the estonian people’s struggle for liberty.
It’s a lovely monument!
Especially when it is lit once it gets dark.
It’s also a remarkably similar to the 33rd degree jewel,
one of Sovereign Grand Inspector-General. Order out of chaos.
