NAISSAAREL – ON NAISSAAR

Once upon a time, a crazy estonian conductor, named Tõnu Kaljuste, transfered a hole barn from Pärnumaa (the region around Pärnu in the southwest of Estonia) to Naissaar, a small island in front of Tallinn in the Baltic Sea. Now he and his team are organizing opera and summertheatre events and also concerts there.

The tricky thing is getting there. There is only one ship, MS Monica, for about 100 people going once to the island and going back after the event.

If you don’t belong to the lucky ones getting hold of one of the ferry tickets you have to make the way on your own…. for the ambitious ones: swimming there is surely worth an entry in the guiness world records book.
But the ferry leaves from Pirita and the yacht harbour is just at the opposite side of the port basin, you might try to convince someone there to give you a ride.
But you don’t have to visit the events organized by Nargen Opera to visit the island. Going there for some days hiking and camping is also very nice. You can discover the beautiful nature and the remains of the former secret Soviet army base. At the moment you can berry strawberries! And loads of blueberries will be ripe in some weeks.

MS Monica! How cute!
it’s all yours!!!
